ASM International “Living in a Material World” Teacher Grants

Baker & Taylor/YALSA Conference Grants Application

This grant is funded by the Baker and Taylor Company. The two grants of $1,000 each are awarded to librarians who work directly with young adults in either a public or school library to enable them to attend the Annual Conference for the first time.

Best Buy Scholarships

Each year, the Best Buy Children's Foundation awards more than $2 million in scholarships nationwide to graduating high school senior. In 2006, we are proud to award over $2.4 million in scholarships to more than 1,500 graduating high school seniors who will attend an accredited college, university or technical center in the fall, immediately following graduation – including eight seniors who will receive scholarships of $25000.

Great Book Giveaway Competition

Each year the YALSA office receives approximately 1200 newly published books, videos, CD's and audiocassettes, materials that have been targeted primarily towards young adults. Publishers and producers submit copies for selection committees to review and nominate. After the ALA Midwinter Meeting (when committees select their annual lists), these materials need to be removed from the YALSA office to make room for the next year's publications.
The YALSA Board of Directors believes many libraries that serve young adults would benefit by receiving this collection of materials.

The H.W. Wilson Library Staff Development Grant

John Blanchard Memorial Scholarship

Leadership for Diversity Scholarship

National Weather Association (NWA) Sol Hirsch Education Fund Grants

$500 grants for K-12 teachers are available annually from the NWA to help improve the education of their students in meteorology. Teachers may use the funds to take an accredited course in atmospheric sciences, attend a relevant workshop or conference, or purchase scientific materials or equipment for the classroom. Five grants or more are possible each year.

Science & Technology Studies (STS) Program

The National Science Foundation's Division of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences (BCS) and Division of Social and Economic Sciences (SES) award grants to doctoral students to improve the quality of dissertation research. These grants provide funds for items not normally available through the student's university. Additionally, these grants allow doctoral students to undertake significant data-gathering projects and to conduct field research in settings away from their campus that would not otherwise be possible. Proposals are judged on the basis of their scientific merit, including the theoretical importance of the research question and the appropriateness of the proposed data and methodology to be used in addressing the question.
